Leon was born in Philadelphia where he worked as a trial lawyer. He then moved to San Francisco where he established his own commercial real estate company.
He then changed careers and was a founder of Next Bus Information Systems, now operating in over 20 cities in the United States.
Leon first visited New Zealand in 1998 and became a permanent resident of New Zealand in 2002.
He built the Bec Spa Resort in 2002. He is an enthusiastic member of the Marlborough Bridge Club and enjoys trekking and swimming.
Some Bec Spa History
We had an interesting and delightful visit in the past from Count Vittorio Frescobaldi and his wife, the Marquesa, her brother and sister-in-law, and friend Massimo Bellimi.
Leon looked up the history of the Frescobaldi family and found out that they’ve been making wine since the 1300s, specializing in the sangiovase grape variety grown in Tuscany.
Perhaps some of you have tasted their wine at the Frescobaldi Wine Bar in Florence. Vittorio also joint ventured with Robert Mondavi, the famous winemaker from Napa Valley, California, until the Mondavi winery was recently sold.
Their comments after their stay with us, “A very nice stay in a very nice place. Thank you, we’ll be back."
